Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

III A trailer dealer in Northern Ireland sold a supposedly "Al condition" trailer which in fact needed more than £2,000 worth of repairs to make it roadworthy.

Ron Wood from Billericay-based Woods Transport is now trying to recover the £16.000 he paid to Chieftain Engineering of Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland for the used Centurion lowloader in January.

Chieftain's salesman Martin Conway. who has since left the company, told Wood the trailer was in excellent condition and that he would be able to use it immediately.

But after a couple of days' use Wood suspected there was something wrong and asked London company Truck Align to look over it. A mechanic told him the U-bolts could snap at any time and "send the axle rolling off down the road".

A more detailed report included a catalogue of repairs, including a full set of axle U-bolts and nuts, the replacement of broken saddles and the removal of sag from the chassis.

A director for Chieftain says he is aware of the sale but adds that the right person to speak to is in America.

He declined to say if Wood would be reimbursed.

Wood says: It surprises me that a major dealer can do business like this. The salesman assured me the trailer was in very good condition.

"They did offer to repair it," he adds, but I'm worried it might bend again so I want my money back. They haven't got back to me now for three or four weeks."
