Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Thousands of Transport and General Workers Union shop stewards around the country are being asked to ensure that their companies comply with a new Health and Safety Executive code of practice for operating fork-lift trucks.

Under the code, introduced on 1 April, all new fork truck operators must complete basic training, and all existing operators must be adequately trained and experienced.

Dennis Mills from the TGWU says he will be asking his members to inform the union of any companies failing to keep to the new code, and offenders will be reported to the HSE.

Mills says that between 1986 and 1987 1,300 people were injured in accidents involving fork-lift trucks.
