Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Plans to import the carderived Citroen AX Enterprise van into the UK have been shelved, but the latest TUD3 diesel engine fitted to the AX cars will probably make an appearence in the Citroen Visa before too long.

The 1,360cc five-bearing, OHC four-cylinder [DI engine is one of the smallest diesel engines in mass production. Built in the PSA plant at Douvrin, the engine gives a power output of 39kW (53hp) at 5,000rpm, and develops 84Nm (621bft) of torque at 2,500rpm.

The all-alloy unit has castiron wet cylinder liners, the crank case is in two parts, one of which provides support for the crankshaft bearings.

Fuel injection to the cylinder head prechambers is via a rotary DPC pump. There are hydraulic engine mountings and the engine mates up with the PSA MA-type gearbox.

The powerplant is based on the existing TU series of petrol engines. It will be manufactured in the same factory as the petrol equivalents with many common components shared by the two.

Citroen claims its new engine has performance levels in Line with those of similar-sized petrol engines. The installation in the AX car is, it claims, "the fastest small diesel in the UK".
