• Component manufacturer GKN boosted its pre-tax profits by 21.2% to 2177.6 million last year. Total sales fell slightly to £2,369 million from 22,409.5 million in 1987.
Geordie nappies
• Lowfield's distribution contract with nappy manufacturer Swaddlers (CM 25 January-1 February) will be run from the company's Newcastle depot.
Falling in the fjords
• Last year Norwegian sales of vehicles of over 16 tonnes GVW fell by 32% to 1,585 units. Norway's truck market as a whole declined by almost 50%.
