THE LATEST EXAMPLE of co-operation between a Natio. nal Bus Company subsidiary and local authority transporl planners is the Eden Valley Village Bus, which corn. menced service recently.
A specially painted Maids. tone and District Motor Ser. vices Ford R1014 bus is now operating the rural services in a service tailored to meet thE requirements of the people oi the Edenbridge area of Kent.
The service, which was. planned by Kent County Council Transport Department and Maidstone and District in conjunction with Sevenoaks District Council and local parish councils, is based on the results of houseto-house surveys carried out last year.
The Village Bus is essentially an off-peak service that will employ some of the considerable resources used in the area to supply peak-hour school transport.
Kent County Council is supporting the cost of the operation and revised conventional services in the area. After a year, the Village Bus service will be reviewed and local parish councils will be asked to comment on its success.
