• The issue of forms for reclaiming Selective Employment Tax, which came to an end on March 31, is being delayed because of the continuing civil servants' industrial action. But a Department of Employment spokesman told CM this week that it was hoped employers would complete and return forms as soon as they received them and in any event before September 30,
Although in theory road hauliers were free from SET, in practice the tax was paid. The tax was paid when National Insurance stamps were purchased, at the rates of £1.20 per week for adult males, 60p for women and boys and 40p for girls. Every 13 weeks, however, the tax was reclaimed by those entitled to do so.
