(IN Wednesday, Sheffield City ‘-/Council was asked to approve a decision of the transport committee to replace trams by motorbuses over a period of 15 years.

A report from Mr. R. C. Moore, general manager of the transport undertaking, showed that trams ran on 17 routes, covering 48 miles, and carried 175m. people a year, 64 per cent. of the undertaking's annual total. Buses ran on 120 miles of route, carrying 100m. passengers a year. Four years ago, the trams carried 71 per cent, and the buses 29 per cent. of the traffic.

Mr. Moore raised the question of what was to be done with the 816 trarn drivers, and the 179 men employed in depots and on works staff. "This programme of gaff'adjustment will necessitate setting up at an early date a comprehensive bus-driving training establishment with the necessary instructing staff and equipment," he stated.
