Refuse Collection at Swansea.

An interesting suggestion is made by the chief constable of Swansea concerning refuse collection, which applies particularly to Swansea, but also to towns which are similarly placed. The Swansea Borough Council is responsible for the refuse collection in the greater part of the town, but a considerable portion of it is cleared by two other local authorities, these being the Swansea Rural District Council and the Gower Rural District Council. As a result of this method of procedure the chief constable thinks that in the past year there were more collections than there should have been, and in his annual report he concluded that there were duplicate and even triplicate collections made by the various authorities towards a common object. In his opinion the authorities should combine so far as collection is concerned and obtain suitable transport vehicles to make daily clearances at stipulated times, instead of a number of small, disconnected collections. The matter is under the consideration of the Swansea Council. Thornycroft Repeat Orders.
