• The former distribution manager of Cornish Brewery has bought the transport division of the Redruth-based firm, which was sold by parent company JA Devonish five weeks ago.
Derek Payne, who has worked in the brewery's distribution division for over 20 years, has taken over four tractor units, seven trailers, including two tankers, and a 790m warehouse.
He plans to acquire up to 18 more tankers by the end of next year and is setting up a tanker cleaning bay in Exeter.
The transport operation, which has been re-named Silverstream Distribution, will stay at its site in Redruth. Most of the seven staff there moved across with the takeover, although two drivers were made redundant.
Since the takeover Silverstream has won a three-year primary distribution contract with the brewing part of Cornish Brewery, which has been renamed Redruth Brewery by its new owners. It has also won a one-year distribution and storage contract with Taunton Cider and plans to transport wines and spirits to high street stores.
