• Parcelforce wage negotiations have reached a critical stage, says a union spokesman, after the workforce rejected an improved offer of 3% on basic rates and a lump sum of £150 was rejected.
The offer also includes a commitment from Parcelforce to consider a small extra lump sum payment during 1992 if results prove "encouraging". It was made on 27 August after the Union of Communication Workers had turned down a lump sum of £280 in two stages of £100 and £180 (CM 15-21 Aug). The union had sought a mixture of a lump sum and a percentage increase to satisfy its 10,000 members at Parcelforce.
A date has yet to be set for a final meeting.
