• The Dawsongroup has reported its first loss in 18 years of commercial vehicle sales.
The group's half-year turnover was £21.50m compared with £.24.25m last year, although the rental division increased its turnover by 4.6%. This sector includes Dawsongroup's contract hire activities which account for 49% of its business.
The company does not expect vehicle sales to pick up before next spring, but group finance director Clive Gear says: "Cutbacks have already been made to cater for the recession. We're running a tight ship."
