• Mr. George Stringer, Teesside Transport's deputy manager, is to take over the running of the buses at Newcastle in the autumn. The chairman of Newcastle's transport committee, Gift. Neville Trotter, said a special working group had interviewed six candidates for the post of deputy general manager of the undertaking and had recommended Mr. Stringer for the post, and this was approved by the city's finance committee. He said that Mr. Jim Hurst, the present general manager, would be leaving on October 1 to take over as director of transport operations for Tyneside PTE and Mr. Stringer would then become acting general manager until the executive took over the running of buses on January 1, 1970, Mr. Stringer was general manager of Middlesbrough transport prior to its amalgamation in the Teesside reorganization.
