Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

episode in the six-week old strike/closure dispute between D. E. Hines (Transport), of Streetly, and the TGWU over the dismissal of a driver.

Any hopes of the business reopening were finally dashed when an offer by the firm to five of its drivers of a wage increase of £2 15s a week with bonuses if they returned to work by 4 p.m. on Friday, in defiance of the union. was not accepted.

Mr. Ronald Hines, managing director of the company is reported as saying: We will not reopen". He had no intention of signing agreements at the demand of Mr. Alan Law for wage increases of up to £6 a week.

When CM contacted Mr. Hines on Wednesday he said he had given up all hope of restarting the business. He felt that, whatever attempts he. made, he would find obstacles in his way even to the extent of sanctions against any firm that he did business with. Mr. Hines, his brother and his son were doing repair work on the vehicles but no decision on what to do with them had yet been made.
