• The Mersey Docks and Harbour Board has announced increased charges for cargo handling in the Port of Liverpool from October 1 1969.
The announcement makes it clear that the 10 per cent increase will not in itself offset the anticipated deficiencies for 1969 and 1970. The only ways in which these can be eliminated, says the Board, are by speeding up the turnround of ships and increasing the tonnage of cargo handled---"If this is not achieved the prospects for the continued operation of Liverpool as a major world port are grave".
