• Southampton tanker driver Gordon Harding, 36, who risked his life to drive his blazing vehicle away from army sleeping quarters, has been awarded the Plus 50 thclustrial Bravery Award, which is sponsored by Protective Footwear Service Ltd., of Bristol.
Mr. Harding, who works for Calorgas (Distributing) Co. Ltd. of Milibrook. was refuelling gas containers beside the kitchens of a Hampshire army camp when a fire broke out. He used two extinguishers on it, burning himself severely, but was unable to put out the flames. By this time the wheels of his lorry were also ablaze.
In eider to save sleeping soldiers from a possible explosion, he jumped back into the lorry, his hair and clothing on fire, and drove it away. -Mr. Harding has only recently been discharged from hospital.
