M4 in South Wales is no longer the safest motorway in Britain, police told a road safety conference in Cardiff last week.
Drivers aged 17 to 24 cause 20% of accidents: 6.5% of these happen within a year of passing the test, say the police. Despite this, new drivers feel safer on a motorway and see no difference to an ordinary road, according to a Gallup survey for the Association of British Insurers.
