• Amberline Coaches of Liverpool, recently acquired by National Express Holdings, has diversified into commercial local service operations. Two routes from the Speke area have been introduced into the city centre — a minibus service every 10 minutes, and a limited-stop double-decker route every half-hour. Ten new Carlyle Dailybuses have been bought for the operation, together with secondhand double-deckers which can be used on contract work.
Amberline joins Crosville, North Western and Liverline on the busy Aigburth corridor. All four are challenging Merseybus, the incumbent bus company for passengers from south Liverpool into the city.
