LEYLAND'S Bathgate engine plant may close earlier than planned, following troubles at one of its main customers.
Receiver Price Waterhouse has been called in to Marshall Sons and Company of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, the group which bought Leyland's agricultural tractor manufacturing business in 1981. '
Marshall tractors use Bathgate-built diesel engines and Leyland may need to close its doomed Scottish plant earlier than mid-1986.
At one time, the Marshall group was in the running to buy the Bathgate plant.
