IVECO's turbo Daily goes on sale officially at next month's Scottish Motor Show, taking the Daily van and chassis cab range above 3.5 tonnes GVW for the first time in the UK.

Two turbo models will be offered, the 3.5-tonne (NW 35.10 and the five-tonne GVW 49.10.

Both will be available as either a 3.2m wheelbase high roof van or a 3.6m wheelbase chassis cab. A 3.2m wheelbase chassis cab option is also expected to be introduced in the UK early next year, along with the 4.5-tonne GVW 45.10 model.

All turbo models have the 2.5-litre direct injection Sofim 8140:21 diesel engine which develops 69kW (92hp) at 3,000 rpm and has a peak torque of 215Nni (159 lbft) at 2,200rpm. This compares with the 53kW (72hp) indirect-injection So Ii m 8140 naturally aspirated engine currently fitted in the 35.8 Daily range. All models will have a fivespeed gearbox' as standard.

Although Iveco was the first to exhibit a small, highspeed direct-injection truck diesel engine when the four cylinder 81411:21 engine was shown at the Geneva Show (CM, January 28, 1984) it was beaten into final production by Ford which launched its naturally aspirated 2.5di Transit engine last year (CM. April 28, 1984), The 8140:21 Solim engine is the first turbocharged small, direct-injection engine to be offered by a manufacturer.

Prices for the 35.10 and 49.10 are expected to be released at the Scottish Show.
