THE VOLATILE state of the oil companies' pricing structure was revealed again last week when the major companies cut 0.5p from the price paid by hauliers for a litre of derv.
This helped reverse a series of increases in August and September which added 3p to the price of a litre, or 13.6p per gallon. This latest cut takes 2.3p off the price of a gallon.
According to Esso, the latest reduction is a result of "current market conditions".
Esso, which has been leading recent changes in price levels, has also abolished the zonal pricing structure which preserved more expensive rates for outlying areas.
Before, there was a 0.04p per litre premium for dery sold in the outer zone (the area between the major conurbations), a -0.0 8p premium for the general zone (most of Scotland and Wales), and a 0.12p premium in the North Scotland zone.
