• A simple re routing of the main wiring loom on all Leyland Nationals has now been adopted following a number of fires. A recommendation for all existing buses to be modified has been sent out.
The modification has been implemented after 18 fires on the more than 700 LNs now in service. It is understood that only one of the fires was at all serious. In that instance flames from the rear engine compartment were carried through the vehicle by the ventilation system and the bus was gutted rapidly.
Twelve of the 18 fires involved one NBC subsidiary.
