• A major restructuring of fares within the Tyneside PTE is being planned. The new system will incorporate seven different fare scales ranging from 2p for two-thirds of a mile to 6p for 2-; miles. Above this distance the charge will be about lp per mile.
If allowed by the Northern Area Traffic Commissioners fare increases would increase by lp on fares up to Sp and 2p on tickets of 6p and over. The increases would bring in an extra £950,000 a year and, if approved, would start in November.
