the Ministry 1 of Nationalized Services, the Ceylon Transport Board states that nearly 3,000 buses which were taken over by the board when the bus services were nationalized, will have to be scrapped as they are not roadworthy.
The board points out that, out of a total of 5,707 buses, only 2,757 are
good runners." The number of buses required for the operation of the present scheduled services is 3,260 and this is expected to increase during next year. Therefore, the board has decided tc purchase 700 new buses during the next year to be added to the existing fleet.
According to the report, the operational losses have been progressivelâ– , reduced from Rs 13m. in 1959, to Rs lm in 1961.
