Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

rAA NEW single-line trailer braking system in which the vacuum brakes are automatically applied in the event of a breakaway, and remain applied until manually released, has been introduced by Feeny and Johnson, Ltd., 134-136 Ealing Road, Wembley, Middx.

The breakaway valve is fitted on the towbar of the trailer, so that the flexible hose connecting the pipeline is coupled to one end as indicated at P in the accompanying drawing. In the event of a mechanical connection breaking, the pull of the trailer will be transferred to the hose and when the extent of the pull reaches a certain value, it will operate the plunger in the breakaway valve.

Only a short pull is necessary to open the pipeline from the vacuum reserve tank of the trailer and at the same time shut off the pipeline to atmosphere. The brakes are fully applied immediately, and will remain so until released by pushing the hose connection back to the running position. The system can be applied to trailers already equipped with F. and J. vacuum power-operated brakes by adding the control valve and a vacuum reservoir provided with the appropriate connections.
