THE Government ought to be tougher in dealing with some of the overseas countries to ensure that they realty carried out trade agreements with Britain. This suggestion was put to Mr. Peter Thorneycroft, President of the Board of Trade, by Mr. Sydney S. GO, chairman and managing director of Guy Motors, Ltd.
Mr. Guy revealed this last week when the company entertained guests from overseas. The Hon. J. A. Ditnroitt, Agent-General for Western Australia. said that the Guy and Sunbeam concerns had changed the State's transport outlook. Mr. F. W. Harris, M.P., chairman of Marsha% (East Africa), .Ltd., Guy Distributors, Nairobi, stated that increases in wages had to be matched by higher output.
In eight years. 34 Guys operated by B. B. A. Breda, Holland, had covered 18rri. miles, and another five or six years' service was expected from them, said Mr. P. Drayer, chief engineer of the .Dutch company.
COAST SERVICE APPEAL FAILS
A N appeal against the refusal by the South Eastern Traffic Commissioners to authorize an express service between Cold Ash and Weymouth has been rejected. with costs, by the .Minister of Transport. The appellants were Reliance Motor Services (Newbury), Ltd. Mr. R. L. H. Hiscott, a Ministry of Transport inspector, heard the appeal in Newbury on July 27.
