NEW AIR-COOLED OILER ANEW 25-30-cwt. chassis, powered by an air-cooled oil engine, is to be exhibited by Wales and Edwards, Ltd.. Shrewsbury, at the Dairy Show, which opens at Olympia on October 23. The vehicle is based on the existing W. and E. battery-electric chassis.

The engine is a 1.1-litre horizontally' opposed twin and the gearing used gives the vehicle a maximum road speed of 15-20 m.p.h.

Prototype tests have shown a fuelconsumption rate of 35 m.p.g. on local delivery work. The principal advantage of an air-cooled engine for this work is the elimination of freezing problems in N-‘, inter, together with an improved Fuelconsumption' rate. The new vehicle is not designed to replace battery-electrics, but merely to supplement them in very hilly areas and on " fringe" rounds.

PLASTICS PARTS TO BE QUANTITY PRODUCED

LIANTITY production of glass‘...e fibre reinforced plastics rods, bars, tubes and sheet is to be undertaken by Thermotank Plastic Engineering, Ltd., Chapelhall Works, near Glasgow. Special equipment has been installed in a new factory and it is claimed that the products will he sold at an economic price.

Rods and bars with diameters ranging from 1-1 in. will be available in continuous lengths. and tubes are to be produced with bores ranging from 1 in.2 ft. Any section normally produced as a metal extrusion will also be supplied.
