D1SSATISFIED with an offer of only 21d. per hour more for skilled workers and 2d. for unskilled, compared with a national claim for an extra 3d, an hour, maintenance and repair workers of the Road Haulage Executive's No. 27 Group, Tipton Road depot, Dudley, last week gave 21 days' notice of strike action.
Mr. N. Wright, Transport and General Workers' Union shop steward at the depot, stated: "It was agreed that the Executive's offer was quite unacceptable to both the Union and the men. It was felt that negotiations had been far too protracted, and as no settlement had yet been reached, it was decided that the time had come when more positive action must be taken."
He added that he was confident that workers at other depots in the area would readily give their support. There would be no immediate effect upon the working of the depot if the men came out on strike.
