Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The report of Clayton Wagons, Ltd., for the year ended June 30th last shows a trading profit of £20,722, as against £728 in the preceding year. From this sum certain items have to be deducted, the largest being that of provision for depreciation of buildings, plant and wagons—i.e., £14,178---so that the credit balance to be carried forward is £1,519.

Although the profit on the year shows a marked improvement, it would have been even better but for the intervention of the general and coal strikes, which have naturally affected the company's trading. Reference is made to the fact that the company have recently under taken the manufacture, under licence, of the Dewandre vacuum servo brake, the preliminary work in connection with the introduction of which has now been accomplished.
