• West Midlands Travel had its 0-licence curtailed last week after a public inquiry heard that 108 of the bus company's vehicles had failed inspections earlier in the year.
Licensing Authority John Mervyn Pugh also threatened to bring the company to a second public inquiry and reduce the number of buses it could operate if it was found to be in "neglect" again before it has to apply for a new operating licence on 1 July next year.
All its 1,800 vehicles will have to pass MoT tests by that time at a cost of 03,000. West Midland Travel's present five-year licence was due to expire in November 1996.
Vehicle Inspectorate examiners imposed prohibition notices on 108 of the 343 buses they inspected between January and March this year.
The vehicle faults found included defective brakes and broken seat frames.
