Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• MAN has launched the narrower 'standard' version of its F90 cab in Britain, which will be fitted to all of its tractive units with power outputs of 215kW and below. At the same time, MAN has released the timetable for a string of new releases for the next 12 months; amongst new engines and extensions to the F90 range, there is the introduction of the new M90 middleweights which will fit in between the G90 (see page 33) and the F90.

The F90 standard cab, with an overall width of 2,280mm, is 1600mm narrower than the 'wide' F90 cab, which continues to be fitted to the 17.332 and 17.362 4x2 tractive units, as well as to the twin-steer 22.362, a prototype of which will be operating as a demonstrator at the Scottish show.

The first right-hand-drive vehicle to be sold with the standard cab will be the 17.292 tractor, which enters full production next month. It will be followed by the 6x2 22.292, which goes down the line at the beginning of next year.

Both models will be powered by the latest 11.96-litre D2866LF/290 MAN engine, rated at 213kW (285hp), with a peak torque of 1,200Nm (8841b1t) between 1,300 —1,50Orpm. (Both figures are net installed to EEC 80/1269). The D2866LF/290 engine is similar to the more powerful 332 MAN engine, but with a different fuel-injection system, smaller clutch and cooling fan.

The 17.292 two-axle attic fitted with a standard day cab and some 50-litres of fuel on board, (but not driver or fifth wheel), tips the scales at around 6,000kg. MAN says the sleeper version will add another 100kg.

MAN will offer all its 6x2 artics with a 3.85m outer axle spread, which it claims gives the widest loading latitude.

Next month, the German truck builder will start fitting the jointly-developed MAN/ Eaton hub reduction axle on all its F80 trucks. The latest rear axle comes with a choice of six axle ratios from 3.08 to 5.29:1, and replaces the previous hub reduciton unit. According to MAN, it is not only more efficient, but also quieter, and lighter by 60kg.

during 1988 MAN is also planning to launch two new en ginees. The first to appear will be the 2961W (360hp) D2866LX which will replace the current D2866KK.

While there is no difference in power outputs between the two engines, the D2866LX provides its 1,500Nm (1,106Ibft) of torque 100rpm lower down the rev range. The first D2866LX blocks are expected to appear "early in 1988".

The second new engine will be the 194kW (260hp) fivecylinder charge-cooled 10-litre D2865LF. It will enter production next June and is intended for 4x2 tractive units as well as the long-awaited MAN eight-legger with the F90 cab.

Along with the changes already mentioned, MAN has also revised its G90 cab suspension system and is adding a Lucas Kienzle top-speed limiter to its trucks from 213kW. The German manufacturer is also planning to fit the promised ZF 168-150 synchromesh gearbox initially in its 6 x2 artic units. The 165-150 box will eventually be optional on all MAN trucks with power outputs of between 216 to 269kW.
