vehicles to the local authority sector with a £310,000, five-year agreement with the Consortium for Purchasing and Distribution (CPD), based at Trowbridge.

Under the contract, BRS will supply 25 new Leyland Daf trucks fitted with Adcliffe Surelift demountable bodies. In addition, two of the vehicles will have drawbar trailers for trunking operations. The vehicles will be supplied in Marchnext year.

CPD is a local authority organisation representing ten county councils, 56 district councils and a water authority. It undertakes on their behalf to purchase and distribute all local authority requirements from pencils to fire engines. The councils cover an area from Anglesey to Cornwall and has a total turnover of around £80 million.

BRS Western won the contract in the light of 13 tenders. CPD says, "They were not the cheapest, but what they offered was a system which most closely matched our requirements, and so was the most cost effective. They relieved us of the financial burden of owning a fleet."
