(Transport) for information leading to the recovery of two Craven Tasker bulk tippers stolen over the weekend of 17 and 18 October.
The tippers were stolen from the premises of a customer, Hugh Baird, at Station Approach, Whitham in Essex. Baird operates a maltster business and the premises are in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so the thieves must have been seen by someone.
Derek Cooper says, "We are surprised at the audacity of the thieves, but we cannot keep running to our insurance company when these losses occur. Ten thousand pounds of our money is therefore waiting for anyone with information which will lead to the recovery of the two trailers and the successful prosecution of the thieves".
The latest theft follows two similar thefts from Derek Cooper, one at Mildenhall in November 1984 and one from Braintree in October last year. In each case the thieves have chosen 8.5m Craven Tasker bulk tippers in preference to the popular 9.14m version.
Cooper's insurance manager Brian Duffield says that the thieves preference for the 8.5m trailers suggests they have not been stolen for breaking-up, but are being stolen to order. He suspects the trailers are being taken for sale in Southern Ireland.
"Somewhere someone knows what's going on, or at least has suspicions," says Cooper, "we have got to en courage these people to come forward with information by offering sensible rewards."
The two trailers recently stolen were a 1980 Craven Tasker trailer, chassis number 8009301093 and ministry number 61131580, and a 1982 Craven Tasker trailer, chassis number 820930W1495, ministry number 623340 82. Both trailers are fitted with Ebro rams, Lister donkey engines, alloy bodies and red painted chassis.
Anyone with any information should contact Derek Cooper on (0638) 750486 or telephone their local police station.
