• Connect UK is finally up and running, operating a nationwide parcels service, albeit on a manual basis since the company's computer system is not working properly.
The new parcels service, which involves 175 hauliers in 251 franchise areas, actually began operating a commercial parcels business on 26 October.
Marketing manager Barry Glaser says he does not know when the computer system will be working, It appears the problem arises in the telephone links between the central computer and the terminals at each of the franchise depots.
The company's progression from original idea to parcels service has been plagued with problems, including a financial crisis when Connect's main backer withdrew its support.
