Mr. Alan D. MacPherson has been appointed managing director of Gulf Oil (Great Britain) Ltd. He was formerly sales development manager of the company. Mr. H. P. W. Christiansen, who last July was seconded to Gulf Oil on special assignment as manager on the death of Mr. Carl Belkofer, the previous managing director, will now resume his former position of sales development co-ordinator, Gulf Eastern Co. Mr. John E. Collins has resigned his position as transport manager with H. H. and S. Budgett and Co. Ltd., a post he has held since 1947. The group, which includes United Counties Stores Ltd., runs about 400 vehicles.

Mr. Ronald Palmer, traffic superintendent of Salford City transport department since -1953, is to be the new deputy general manager of Portsmouth City transport department. Aged 43, Mr. Palmer was with Stockport Corporation transport department from 1938 until he moved to Salford.

Mr. John Welch has been appointed maintenance engineer, Isle of Man Road Services Ltd., in place of Mr. J. M. Sheard, who is to retire on November 30 after being with the company (and one of its predecessors) since 1928. Mr. Welch was a pre-war Leyland apprentice and one-time assistant engineer of the Kenya Bus Co. Ltd.

Mr. Ken Smith has joined North Worcestershire Garages (Stourbridge) Ltd. as commercial vehicle sales manager. Previously Mr. Smith was with the Richardson Group at Oldbury.

Dr. James Taylor has joined the Board of Oldham and Son Ltd. Dr. Taylor was a main board director of ICI until his retirement last year and at present is deputy chairman of Pyrotenax Ltd., a director of the BDH Group Ltd. and of the Fulmer Research Institute.
