Key Units
THIS smart outfit (left) has
just been added to the fleet of Key Warehousing and Transport Co. Ltd., of Hull. and consists of a Scammell Handyman tractive unit of 10 ft. wheelbase and a Boden 28 ft. TIR semi-trailer.
The outfit is one of a series of vehicles supplied by Commercial Vehicle Sales (Hull) Ltd., and Key will be using the Handyman tractive units at 28 tons g.t.w. with the Roden trailers, at 30 tons gross with matched Scammeli semi-trailers, and at 32 tons with York Triaxle models.

*L'ERRYIVIASTERS LTD. are enlarging their TIR fleet and have started taking delivery of 30 York semi-trailers based on the Teamster EP 23 R plated for operation at 30 tons gross. Measuring 32 ft. 6 in, long, the new trailers (left) have a hardwood TIR body and the frame has a long-reach gooseneck which enables the trailers to be interchanged between long and short tractive units, even with a 30 in. kingpin position.
The tractive unit seen here is an Atkinson.
General Motors Diesel Used
THIS Atkinson tractive unit is powered by a General Motors diesel and has clocked up 60,000 miles on a regular 2,400-mile round trip between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. It is operated by Mayne Nickless Ltd. at .28 tons g.t.w. and is returning 6-25,en.p.g. hauling full loads of dry goods in its Trailmobile van semi-trailer.
The GM diesel is a six-cylinder unit producing 218 b.h.p. at 2,100 r.p.m. and it drives through a Fuller RI 0910 1.0-speed gearbox to a Kirkstall double-helical rear axle. The unit has a ,130 gal. fuel tank.
The line-haul manager of Mayne Nickless, Mr. L. Prentice, has praised the GM-engined Atkinson as "" a very satisfactory unit. Handles the load • with ease ".
