Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Stand 78 TWOpassenger chassis and a goods model, known respectively as the Marathon, Magna and Mogul, are being marketed for 1938 by the Maudslay Motor Co., Ltd. An example of each type is on view. In general construction, the 1938 models are similar to those of last year, but several minor modifications have been incorporated.

The example of the Marathon which is on view has a 32-seater luxury coach body by Arthur Mulliner, Ltd., Northampton, whilst a 40-seater coach body by Samuel Holbrook, Ltd., Wolverhampton, is mounted on the Magna chassis. The Mogul 7i-ton.ner is exhibited with a Muliiner cab.

Low unladen weight is a noteworthy feature of the Marathon, which has a four-cylindered 32.5 h.p. engine of 114 mm. bore and 130 min. stroke. It develops 81.5 b.h.p Control is, of course, from the forward position.

The 17-ft. 7k-in. wheelbase provides for a 32-seater coach body, or 39-seater bus bodywork, and affords a turning circle of 59 ft. The pedal operates servo brakes on all four wheels, an auxiliary cylinder being fitted on each frontwheel swivel; the hand system takes effect on the rear wheels. Ignition is by constant-voltage dynamo.

The divided propeller shaft has a large roller self-aligning centre bearing, which is housed in a steel pressing spanning the main frame. A fully floating umlerslung worm is employed for the final drive. A feature of the unit is that die threads are hardened and polished, whilst the worm wheel of phosphorbronze is also polished.

For the worm thrust bearings, rollers are used, and a point worthy of mention is that the assembly can be withdrawn from the axle as a unit. This feature should appeal to maintenance engineers.—Mauelslay Motor Co., Ltd., Parkside, Coventry.
