ONCE again the well-known Latil 1.--/Loco Traulier is displayed at the Commercial Motor Show. Visitors to the exhibition of two years ago will remember that this machine is adapted for operation on either road or rail.

More interesting, by reason of their relative novelty, are the range of Mark I, Mark II and Mark III Trauliers, which were introduced last summer. They will be shown equipped for road haulage and timber haulage. whilst one is adapted for running on producer gas. There are also on view a timber trailer of spe cial construction and an eight wheeled trailer chassis. !L• ca.

Mark I model has, four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering. It is equipped with a petrol engine having four cylinders an,d developing 5;1 b.h.p. The braking system employed incorporates a vacuum

servo sysiem, which contracts bands on the four wheels, whilst the hand brake operates on the transmission.

The machine equipped for timber haulage has six forward and two reverse speeds. Its wheels are shod with 20 by 9 Ground Grip tyres, suitable for use on hard roads or soft surfaces. Its winch is driven through a three-speed gear.

One of the Mark II models is powered . by a Gardner 4LK oil engine and the other is equipped, as mentioned above, with producer-gas plant. It has a fourcylindered engine of 120 mm. by 130 mm., but in other respects resembles' the forestry machine.

The third type of Traulier, drives on all four wheels, but can be steered on two or four at the will of the driver. An ingenious device is incorporated, by which the link-up in the steering mechanism to the rear wheels can be connected or disconnected.

This mechanism automatically engages a rear-wheel-steering lock, as it disengages the steering link meehanism.—Latil Industrial Vehicles, Ltd., 11, Albert Embankment, London, S.E.11.
