Stand 6f
WIDELY varied in nature are the W exhibits on this stand. They consist of three mechanical horses for use with semi-trailers, a couple of lorries, a municipal vehicle and three trolleybuses.
The Cob Junior 4-ton tractor, the original mechanical horse, appears separately, as well as coupled to a platform semi-trailer with a platform area of 14 ft. by 7 ft. • BK-type automatic coupling gear is incorporated. The 19.9 117p. four-cylindered side-valve engine, which is carried in a. deepsection frame, develops 40 b.h.p. The single dry-plate clutch and four-speed gearbox are built integrally with the engine.
The Cob Senior 6-ton tractor-trailer combination has a platform 16 ft. long and 7 ft. wide. Here, again, BK coupling gear is employed, but a more powerful engine is installed. It is a 70 b.h.p. six-cylindered unit. The worm-and-wheel steering ensures a turning radius of 16 ft.
The Bantam 2-tonner appears with a special body, 10 ft. 101 ins, long, for the transport of mineral waters, whilst the large cab is easy of access. The forward-control chassis incorporates a Municipal officers should inspect the Cli.3 3-ton low-loading dual-purpose machine, which can be used either as a 9-cubic-yd. refuse collector, or, with the covers removed, as an end-tipper devoid of wheel-arch obstructions. In this case, a 70 b.h.p. six-cylindered side-valve engine is employed, also with magneto ignition. The modest wheelbase (9 ft. 3 ins.) ensures easy manceuvrability.
For long-distance work is the CK5 5-ton platform lorry, the latest addition to the Karrier range. The statically and dynamically balanced crankshaft of the SO b.h.p. six-cylindered side-valve engine is carried in four large lead. bronzebearings, whilst exhaust-valve seats are renewable.
Visitors should make a point of examining the new power unit.
The trolleybuses comprise an E4 four-wheeled chassis suitable for 56-58seater bodywork, a complete E6a sixwheeler with 60-seater coachwork, and a 56-seater E4 four-wheeler. In each case the 80 b.h.p. traction motor is of Metropolitan-Vickers make. The E6a model has pneumatically controlled doors.—Karrier Motors, Ltd., "Biscot Road, Luton.
