Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Stand 14 'UNDOUBTEDLY the highlight of %-dI the International range, as shown at Earls Court, is the new 1)300 forward-control 3-tonner. It appears to represent quite a departure from common British practice and, at first glance, resembles, in so far as its 'general "appearance is concerned, a battery-electric machine.

This is largely due to the relatively low platform of the driver's compartment, with its entrances in front of the front wheels and the fact that it is unbroken by the cab space, an engine separating the driver from the passenger.

Actually, the power unit is housed under the driver's seat, directly above the front axle and, although the frame longitudinals appear to extend nearly as far as the front panelling, the floor of the cab is raised above then little more than by the thickness of the boards.

There are machines from a 15cwt. traveller's brougham to a 10-toncapacity tractor. Considering these briefly in order of Carrying capacity, the first has a six-cylindered engine, developing 78.5 b.h.p., and an attractive feature is the use of " easy-clean " roadwheels. Next comes a 25-cwt, model, shown as a van. This is equipped with a similar engine to that of the smaller machine. It also has " easy-clean " wheels.

All three 3-tonners, including model D300, have 81 b.h.p. six-cylindered power units and four-speed gearboxes. Metal-spoked wheels are used, shod with 32 by 6 heavy-duty tyres with twins at the rear. The wheelbase of the forward-control model is 8 ft. 3 ins., that of the 3-tonner, shown as a lorry, is 12 ft. 11 ins., and that of the third, which is equipped with an hydraulic end-tipping body, is 10 ft. 8 ins.

There are three 4-ton vehicles with 84 b.h.p. engines. One appears in lorry, form with normal control, another with a similar type of body having for ward control, and a third is displayed as a chassis. Fitted with 34 by 7 tyres, two of these machines weigh, in chassis form, well under 2 tons, whilst the third, which has a 14-ft. 8-in, wheelbase, scales no more than 45-i cwt

Carrying an hydraulic end-tipping lorry, a 5-tonner is also on view. Whilst resembling, in the main, the

general layout of the 4-tonners, this vehicle has an engine of 89.1 b.h.p. and servo brakes. Shod with 34 by 7 tyres, its chassis weight is 44f cwt.

Finally, there are two tractors—a 4tonner and a 10-tanner. An interesting detail of -the latter is that the driver's cab is spring mounted.—International Harvester Co. of Great Britain, Ltd., 259, City Road, London, E.C.1.
