Stand 70
TtITACHI1NE1 in motion always IV/attracts attention at an exhibition. Appreciating this point, doubtless, the Guy company has mounted on its stand a sectioned chassis pivoted at each end between two supports, and this is slowly rotated so that every part can be inspected as it moves. Moreover, while it turns on its longitudinal axis the engine and transmission are also rotated at a faster speed. The chassis is, of course, well finished, and by means of the cut-away metal the working parts are easily wen.
Supporting this attraction are eight other vehicles, the features of which we will briefly enumerate. There is a 3-4ton forward-control chassis with a four-cylindered overhead-valve engine of.50 b.h.p., four-speed gearbox, spiralbevel axle and Lockheed brakes. It is shod with 32 by 6 tyres, and is priced at £363.
On another forward-control chassis, a 26-seater coach body is mounted. In this vehicle is installed a rather larger engine which develops 60 b.h.p., and a feature of the gearbox is the use of a silent third speed. In this case, the body is a product of Duple Bodies, Ltd„ and the complete vehicle is offered at £1,047. Both this and the goods machine are Vixen models.
Two trolleybuses are to be seen, a six-wheeler and a lour-wheeler, having seating capacity for 60 and 56 passengers respectively. The larger is powered by a 100 h.p. motor of the compound flat type, whilst the latter has a 75-80 h.p. compound motor. Rheostatic braking is employed, and provision is made for battery manceuvring.
The larger of the two trolleybuses is seen in chassis form and has been built to the specification of Newcastle-on Tyne Corporation. It weighs 5 tons 3 cwt. A 56-seater body constructed to the requirements of the Llanelly Tramways Co. is mounted on the other chassis. Whereas the 60-seater is equipped with 10.5 by 20 single tyres all round, the smaller trolleybus has 10.5 by 20 singles at the front and 9.00 by 20 twins at the rear.
There are also a new Guy 25-30-cwt. Parcelva.n, an Otter 4-5-ton machine, and a Fox six-wheeler, none of which carries a body, so that the make-up can be inspected. Both the Otter and the Fox embody the same type of engine.
The Guy Parcelvan, which is of 23-30cwt. capacity, is of entirely new design. It possesses many features of interest, not the least noteworthy of which is its low front, whilst the comfort afforded for the driver is also an outstanding point. In addition, excellent provision is made for engine accessibility.
On the two larger of these vehicles the braking system incorporates a vacuum-servo gear, the force thus exerted being transmitted to the hubs by Lockheed hydraulic 'apparatus. With a 13-ft. wheelbase, the overall length of the six-wheeler is 20 ft. 10i ins., and its price £465.—Guy Motors, Ltd., Fallings Park, Wolverhampton.
