Stand 19 lkfiANY improvements feature in the IVI 1933 Fodens. Situated in a prominent position in the new Earls Court building, this stand contains examples of six different models in the range. Before dealing individually with these, however, we will outline the points of special novelty.

With the object of preventing the transmission of vibration from the power unit to the frame, supports of cushioning material for the engine feet are now standardized. To enable full advantage to be taken of the economy characteristics of the Gardner engines installed operators are now offered a five-speed gearbox as an alternative to the normal four-speed unit, at an extra cost.

In order to render these machines even better equipped against the rigours of arduous service, larger angl more 'efficient radiators with Still tubes are now employed, and a pump is included in the water circulation systems.

Perhaps, however, the most interesting of all the innovations is the new system of Cowthey-Lockheed braking it being claimed that the retarding effect afforded is such that power assistance is unnecessary. The shoes are of greater width than formerly, . and they are applied by fully compensating mechanism. At the same time, the design has been simplified, and this should be 'reflected in lower rnainten ance cost and greater durability.

Of 12-ton rated pay-load capacity, the biggest machine shown has a Gardner six-cylindered engine of 105 h.h.p. The next is a 10-ton twin weight distribution, affords easy steering and renders the machine roadworthy under all conditions, whilst easing the stress on the tyres as compared with two-rear-axle-type sixwheeler. On this vehicle a fivecylindered oil engine is used.

Of the two four-wheelers, one is rated at 74 tons and has a Gardner 4LW unit, and the other, described as a 7-tonner, is powered by a. six-cylindered engine, the idea being to equip it for hauling a trailer. A 15-ton eight-wheeler with a
