Stand 73 OF transatlantic origin, four goods machines comprise this exhibit. There are two 4-tonners and two 3-tonners, ranging in price from £295 to £395:
This make is marketed in three wheelbase lengths per model, and the vehicles on view in the case of the 4-tonners are shown with mean and long wheelbases, whilst in the 3-ton class there is a long and a short machine. Both have six-cylindered engines, the outputs being respectively 70 b.h.p. and 57 b.h.p.
Dealing first with the long 4-tonner, this has normal control and a wheelbase' of 16 ft. 2 ins. It weighs as a chassis 42 cwt., and is standardized with 32 x 6 tyres. Its power unit is of the side-valve type. Carried in seven cadmium bearings, the crankshaft is of 24 ins, diameter, whilst the big-end bearings, also of cadmium, are of 2 ins. diameter, a point of interest being that E38
plies mixture and is fed with petrol by an _AC. pump. Power is transmitted by a Borg and Beck clutch to a four-speed gearbox mounted as a unit with the engine. Hardy-Spicer shafts convey the drive to a Timken beveldrive axle ..with fully floating shafts.
A feature of the suspension system is that the rear springs work in slides instead of shackles at their back ends, whilst the front shackles and the springeyes have rubber bushes, affording the advantages of shock absorption and removal of the need for lubrication.
In the main, the other models follow the general layout of the foregoing, the shorter 4-tanner being arranged for forward control. The 3-thrillers both have engines rated at 25.35 h.p., and 32 x 6 tyres, the weight of the 13-ft. 8-in.wheelbase model being 34 cwt., and that of the 10-ft. 8-in, model, 33 cwt— Farmer Federal Motors, Ltd., 250-266, Ecclesall Read, Sheffield, 11.
