Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

McALPINE is one of the biggest contractors in this country and there is no exemption in the Act absolving it from coming here if it wants vehicles to work for it", said Mr. G. H. P. Beames, objecting to two B licence applications in Manchester on Tuesday.

Mr. Beames was appearing on behalf of James Booth, S. Berry and Sons Ltd. and TBR Transport Ltd., objecting to applications by Farnworth Motor Co. Ltd., of Farnworth, and F. Nogley, of Bolton, for B licences to carry out tipper work for Sir Alfred McAlpine and Sons

Ltd. on the Farnworth/Kearsley by-pass within 25 miles of bases.

Mr. Beames said that even though the objectors themselves were not present he did not feel that this altered the principle that McAlpine should pay the deputy LA the courtesy of attending to explain why the new facilities were required.

Mr. Jolliffe said that because the applicants had been doing the work for a considerable time and because they were limited in their scope— working for one customer on one particular job —he would grant the applications.
