ASCOTTISH haulier who was alleged to have threatened a MoT vehicle examiner who refused to pass his vehicles as roadworthy appeared before Mr. L. A. Wells, deputy Scottish LA, in Aberdeen
last week.
As a penalty for his attitude and for failing to maintain his fleet in a satisfactory condition the haulier, Mr. Robert Bremner, trading as W. Bremner, The Square. Aberchirder, will have three of his lorries suspended from service during May, June and July.
Seven vehicles were inspected on January 5 and, said Mr. Wells, six prohibition notices were issued. The vehicle examiner had reported that several of the lorries were in a deplorable condition.
Mr. Wells continued: "In addition to this, Mr. Bremner, your attitude to my staff, carrying out the duties laid on them by law, was most unsatisfactory. In fact, as I understand it, you threatened to 'stiffen' one of my staff.
"I am not going to have my inspectors impeded in carrying out their proper functions and I can assure that if you do this again you won't have any vehicles on the road at all, because I will take all your licences away."
Mr. Bremner said his lorries were largely engaged in delivering groceries to farms and collecting eggs, and the bad state of the farm roads made it almost impossible to keep vehicles in good order.
Imposing the three-month suspension, Mr. Wells said it was only fair to state there had been a considerable improvement in the condition of the fleet since the time of the first inspection.
A subsequent application by Mr. Bremner to transfer six vehicles from C to B licences to facilitate his egg collection work was granted.
