Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Charles Young • Renault has launched its new Master and Kangoo vans in the UK; they will be available from 15 March.

The Kangoo has been priced to undercut its direct rivals, the Citroen Berlingo/Peugeot Partner. At £8,800 (ex-VAT) for the 800kg-payload model it is around £1,000 cheaper than the Berlingo or the Partner 800.

The Master has been priced competitively against the Transit, at £19,400 (ex-VAT) for a long-wheelbase/high-roof model.

At the other end of the Master price scale, the lowroof/short-wheelbase model with the naturally aspirated engine will sell for £12,800 (ex-VAT).

The Kangoo petrol variant uses the 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Clio car, and not the 1.4-litre unit which was also shown at last year's international launch. It develops 58hp (43kW) at 5,250rpm with 93Nm (691bft) of torque at 2,50Orpm. The range comprises the petrol variant, with a 625kg nominal payload, and three diesel models. These all take the 1.9-litre indirect-injection naturally aspirated diesel from the Megane, rated at 54hp (40kW) for the 625kg payload model and 64hp (47kW) for the 625kg and 800kg payloads. Options include ABS for £400 and air-conditioning for £600.

The Master range includes three wheelbases and three roof heights, with chassis-cabs in three wheelbases. Load volumes range from 8.0m3 to 13.9m3 (an extra 1.1m3 over the old Master); payloads range from 1,040kg to 1,705kg.

Engine options are a 2,5litre diesel with 78hp (58.5kW) at 4,000rpm and 155Nm (1141bft) of torque at 2,200rpm; or a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel with 113hp (84kW) at 3,600rpm and 260Nm (1921bft) of torque at 1,800rpm. Both are Iveco units.

Master options include ABS for £630, air-conditioning for £680 and a driver's air bag for £220.
