Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I was horrified to read the letter from D Copland of Bradford in (CM 13-19 Feb). This letter is totally inaccurate.

The certificate issued by the CITB actually states on it that it is NOT a certificate of competence. I belong to the Contractors Mechanical Plant Engineers — we do issue certificates of competence, and we do it at cost. There are a lot of innocent people being misled, by cleverly worded advertisements and correspondence; they are paying out a lot of money for paperwork that is totally unnecessary.

As a responsible employer there is nothing to stop me from buying a John Bull printing outfit, and knocking out my own certificates for my employees. These would carry as much weight as those issued by the CITB, and would be just as unnecessary.
