• Reports that British Rail is no longer to be privatised, but instead will open more slots to private freight operators, have been welcomed by the Railfreight Users Group.
"Private operators are beginning to queue up for slots and British Rail's resistance is crumbling," says Julia Clarke of RUG. "We're in favour of privatisation being watered down in favour of more open access with British Rail operating as a broker of freight slots.
