A COUNTY DURHAM indepei dent has been given a one ye licence for a Consett-Blackhi service, despite opposition froi Northern General Transport.
The Northern Traffic Commi sioners granted the licence 1 Watsons Coaches of Stanle after hearing that Northern witl drew a similar service last Octi ber. Although other Northei services cover parts of the rout three witnesses spoke in suppo of Watson's proposals.
But the commissioners ha% turned down another Watsc application, for a Consett-Nev castle service. Again, this n placed withdrawn Northern jou neys, but the commissionei considered the risk of Watsc damaging Northern's netwoi was too great and the servic would be against the public ii terest.
They invited Watson to appl again if Northern cuts its se vices any more,
