TWO LORRY bans in Gv have been opposed by Freight Transport Associatic With the Raglan-Abergav( trunk road improvement (, now completed, Gwent Co Council has once more bra out plans for a 7.5-tonne lorry ban in Usk on the A472.
The ban was first attempt( 1979, but was abandoned 12 months because of the diversionary costs to trade industry in the Cwmbran-Pc pool area.
Now Gwent wants to stor ries using the A472, the she route between the A449 Cwmbran-Pontypool.
The existing route from Ian to Pontymoile, Pontypoc Usk is 13.5 miles. The prop( alternative route via the A4 Abergavenny and the A404 Pontymoile is 18.5 miles. present route from Ragla Lantarnam, Cwmbran, via U 18 miles. The suggested alt( tive route via the A44U. Newport, the M4 and the A to Llantarnam is 19 miles.
The FTA said that th distances could impose h costs on some firms. It therefore already lodged a p sional objection with G, County Council.
