Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Turkish transit taxes which will apply from March 15 (CM February 6) are now obtainable from the International Road Freight Office at 32-42 Low Friar Street, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Road charges will be levied on the basis of 25 kurus per capacity tonne/km for laden vehicles. For unladen vehicles the rate will vary according to the unladen weight.

Fuel cost charges will depend on the payload capacity of the vehicle ranging from 45 kurus per km at less than 10 tonnes (9.84 tons) to 75 kurus per km at over 15 tonnes (14.76 tons).

A sliding scale of charges will also be applied to vehicles exceeding normal Turkish limits on weights and dimen sions of 8 tonnes (7.87 tons) on a single axle or 14.50 tonnes (14.27 tons) though up to 10 tonnes (9.84 tons) on single and 16 tonnes (15.74 tons) on tandem-axles may be allowed on certain routes.

Where appropriate the charges will range from 50 kurus per km per axle over 8 tonnes (7.87 tons) to 200 kurus per km per axle over 16 tonnes (15.74 tons).

There are extra charges for exceeding the maximum height of 4 metres (13ft) and maximum lengths which range from 10 metres (32ft 6in) for vehicles with two axles to 22 metres (71ft 6in) for twotrailer combinations.

There will be a fine of 10 times the tax due for avoiding the charges.

There are 100 kurus in a Turkish lira and 31 Turkish lit in El.

Thus for a 32-ton artic ou fit which does not exceed tl• Turkish length limit of 1 metres for this type of vehicl and with a load which brink the total height to less tha 13ft, only the road charge an the fuel charge may be ii curred.

If the total payload is :2 tons and the vehicle trave 1,000 miles in Turkish territoi the charge is likely to be : Road charge 25 kurus x 20,000, 5,000 TL or £161.: Fuel charge 75 kurus x 1,000, 750 TL or £24.: Total £185.!
